Patient Confidentiality and the
Data Protection Act
Protecting patient confidentiality should be a critical
feature of any Telemedicine system. Telemarque has sophisticated security
and encryption controls that guarantee that patient identifiable information
cannot be accessed by unauthorised individuals.
This applies to the database and to data in transmission
over a network.
The Data Protection Act (1998), has 8 principles. Organisations
must comply or commit a criminal offence.
Telemarque Store & Forward meets all the requirements specified
in the Act.
The Caldicott Committee Report (1997), made 16 recommendations
for organisations to follow to protect the confidentiality of patient
information.
Telemarque Store & Forward complies with all the recommendations
of the Caldicott Committee
